Fashion seasons always throw me off. Spring starts in January? When winter technically just started two weeks before? (shaking my head) I don’t get it. Since I have been a little MIA with having a baby and such, I better share with you my favorite spring socks before summer starts next month.
I have got my eye on the latest collection from Socksmith – a relatively new brand that is making some serious headway in the sock world. Each season their designs just get better and better and these socks are no exception:
Their spring collection really pop with such great attention to detail and color combinations. I especially get a kick out of their color palate: Mojito Green, Mimosa Yellow, and Cosmo Pink. My favorite style is the Bookworm. Somehow I don’t own any yellow socks but that is about to change!
You can shop for Socksmith socks shown above here, along with some other great styles from previous seasons.
Well it’s my birthday too! Let’s celebrate with a sock sale, shall we?
Today only, take 15% off your entire order from my online shop when you enter the code BDAY15 at checkout.
What are my big birthday plans, you ask? Well, thanks to Kelsey’s post, I am going to have dinner from Upper Crust Trattoria (take out, mind you) and enjoy a bottle of Lagunitas. I haven’t decided which dessert I want to overload on yet, but it will happen, don’t you worry. Pretty wild and crazy, right? A newborn will do that to you…
Happy sock sale shopping!

This past month since Holden’s arrival has been one big adjustment period for us. One kiddo? Cakewalk. Two kiddos? Whole new ballgame! I think we are finally settling into what is our new normal. The first two weeks were incredibly challenging. I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel and was certain I would never be able to watch both kiddos solo. People actually do this?! But with each day it got easier, and we all got more comfortable with being a family of four.
Now trying to work while taking care of a toddler and a newborn is pretty close to impossible (Blog? What blog?) and the laundry has certainly piled up. If one is asleep, the other is awake all the way from 6:00 am to 9:00pm. My little Holden only sleeps for 45 minutes at a time and ends the day with a 2-3 hour crying fest. As for Sawyer? Well, let’s just say he has never been a fan of sleeping. Ever.
We are learning to embrace the chaos, as my mom recently put it.
Our sweet, beautiful chaos.
Pizza is a pretty big deal in my family. We ate it a lot growing up. Truth be told, I had it for lunch today too (shout out to Trader Joe’s whole wheat premade pizza dough!). Of course, after I moved away for college, my dad and brother decided to get serious and make their own oven in the backyard.
Nowadays, I get to take advantage of the perfection they have achieved over the years – single or double rise? Sugar or no sugar? Flour or cornmeal? The big question now is pepperoni or sausage? Zucchini or mushrooms?
We joined my parents for dinner over the weekend and put the pizza oven to good use. Pizza made in this oven beats delivery any day!
My creation: spinach, basil, sausage, onions, mushrooms, and pine nuts.
What’s your favorite pizza topping combo?
Sweet baby Holden.
7 pounds, 8 ounces. 19.5 inches. Born at home.
Nesting is an amazing, powerful force as any pregnant woman can tell you (and probably the husbands and partners of said pregnant women would agree with me).
Grout is my demise. To me, every tiled surface, whether it be floor or counter, looks filthy and must scrubbed immediately (I had this with my first pregnancy too). Closets have also been reorganized, kitchen pantry has been sorted through, Sawyer’s cars/trains/airplanes now have homes, and front yard roses ripped out (sorry Deirdre!). I had an “episode” last week where I could not stop cleaning the kitchen and Beau had to grab me by the shoulders and tell me to go to sleep.
I think I have gotten to a place where I can relax a little more on the cleaning frenzy. It is just maintenance mode at this point, a touch up here or there on the grout, maybe, because it is countdown time! Only a week to go until my due date, which pretty much means this baby can come at any time and my house can and will immediately transform into a disaster.
Valentine’s Day is a really fun and cheerful holiday for us at The Sock Drawer. It seems that many people like to give their sweetheart, friends, co-workers, moms, and sisters heart socks for the day of love.
(It’s also really convenient that our shop is located just two doors up from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory — socks + chocolate = a sweet treat!)
This year’s heart collection is pretty darn cute. I am already sporting a pair of the Striped Hearts. I attempted to take a picture earlier, but at this point, it is all pregnant belly when I look down. Ha!
Another great thing about Valentine’s Day socks is that you can pull off wearing them year round pretty easily, versus looking suspect while wearing those Santa socks in July.
You can check out our full Valentine’s collection here.
One of the things I have missed the most during my pregnancy is sushi. I sure do love it. Unfortunately, tempura shrimp rolls are just not cutting it anymore. Plus a new beautiful Japanese restaurant opened up right across the street from The Sock Drawer that is just calling my name. I cannot wait to indulge and stuff myself silly.
In honor of my sushi dinner right around the corner, I just added this super cute Japanese-inspired collection from K.Bell that we recently received:
Colorful Fans, Geisha Girl, & Fighting Ninjas
Aren’t these fun? I cannot decide between the geisha and fans. Both are so striking!
People are pretty hit or miss with sushi. What’s your take? Love it or hate it?
Oh, hello there.
This past month has been a complete blur and I pretty much fell off the face of the blogosphere. Christmas at The Sock Drawer was bustling and filled with all of my favorite customers. All was great until I got incredibly sick and actually had to stay home during my beloved holiday season for nearly two weeks. (Did you know that a simple common cold when you are pregnant is much harder to fight off? I had my first ear infection in, oh, twenty five years…) Fast forward to today:
I am now 37 weeks pregnant and in complete nesting mode. Beau had to grab me by the shoulders last night in the middle of a massive kitchen scrub session and tell me to go to sleep. Can’t.stop.cleaning.
I will try and get a few more posts up before this little guy makes his debut in between pre-natal and chiropractor appointments, scrubbing tile grout, and organizing drawers.
